Marilyn Speaks
Sometimes a person understands what is being said but cannot easily communicate verbally.
Marilyn Speaks provides a very simple customizable talk board. The person touches a large button and the device speaks the phrase.
It runs in a web browser, requires no account, and can be tried directly. Marilyn Speaks is free to use.
Simple on purpose
Marilyn Speaks is meant to be usable straight away, by the person who needs it and by whoever is helping them.
Users or caregivers can customize the buttons and the phrases that are spoken aloud, so the board says what that person actually needs to say.
Customized talk-board setups can be saved, and exported and imported, so different configurations can be used when they are needed.
Optional: a dedicated tablet
Marilyn Speaks does not require a particular device. It can be used on compatible devices through a web browser.
Some people would rather set aside one inexpensive tablet and keep it ready for Marilyn Speaks. If that suits you, Marilyn Speaks has been tested successfully on an Amazon Fire HD 8, with the case below.
Why this case
- Opening the case automatically wakes the tablet.
- It provides a typing position at approximately a 35-degree angle, which makes editing phrases easier.
- This particular case has actually been tested and works well for this type of use.
Neither the Fire HD 8 nor this case is required. Marilyn Speaks itself is free to use — these are simply optional pieces of physical equipment for someone who wants a dedicated Marilyn Speaks device.
